Curly Girl Method
Curly Girl Method
Women with naturally curly hair know that curly hair needs unique care. Curly hair can even vary from day to day! When the weather is very dry, it can become a lot straighter, or when you decide to sleep with wet hair once, it falls perfectly into shape on some while on others it looks like the curls have exploded. Luckily, caring for curls does get a little easier with the Curly Hair Method! The Curly Hair Method is based on a well-known book: Curly Girl the Handbook. The curly girl method, also known as the cg method is a real hit. The author, Lorraine Massay, is the owner of Devachang salons and products. Through years of experience, she has written a book for all types of curls, including, for example, how to care for African American or wavy hair. Furthermore, she has divided her method into several steps; washing, conditioning and styling.
Step 1: Final Wash
The first step of the Curly Hair Method consists of the so-called Final Wash. This step is necessary to remove all product residues and silicones that have built up. For this, you need a shampoo that is silicone-free and contains strong sulphates . The sulphates in the Final Wash shampoo remove all harmful residues from the hair and scalp from previous (wrong) products that have accumulated there over time. This allows you to start completely fresh with the right hair products for your curly hair! The Final Wash step is for one-time use, but if you regularly go swimming in the ocean or pool, you can repeat this step once a month.
We have a number of shampoos that give the hair a deep clean, removing all product residues. This will give the hair and scalp a fresh start with which to start the Curly Hair Method!
Step 2: Curly Girl Method Shampoo
After the first step of the Curly Hair Method, washing your curls with shampoo begins. But according to the Curly Girl Method, you need special CG shampoo for that. And CG shampoo is no ordinary shampoo. A 'regular shampoo' generally contains sulphates, and according to Lorraine Massay, these sulphates are too harsh for curly hair. Sulphates are known to dry out the scalp by removing natural oils. And as most women with curls know, curly hair is inherently drier than other types of hair! Would you rather use a dry shampoo instead of a regular shampoo? Or a combination of these? Then we have selected a dry shampoo for you that leaves no residue and absorbs excess sebum.
So the products we chose at the Curly Girl Method are completely sulphate-free! We have CG shampoos from different brands such as BioSilk, Waterclouds and Kérastase.
Step 3: Curly Girl Method Conditioner
After you wash your hair with the cg shampoo, use a conditioner to moisturise it. The first time you use conditioner you will probably need more because your hair is damaged or because you are just starting out with the curly hair method. When your hair is better hydrated, you can start using less. Therefore, see what the best amount of cg conditioner is for your hair. The Curly Hair method recommends leaving some of the conditioner in the hair. This is because curly hair needs the extra hydration and will not get greasy easily. Your hair will absorb what it needs and you will wring out the excess when drying. This way of caring for hair will not suit everyone, so see if it suits you! Of course, you can also use a Leave-in conditioner to ensure your hair is sufficiently nourished.
All CG conditioners are silicone-free, as they are normally used to remove silicones from the hair. Since you now use a CG shampoo without sulphates, this is no longer necessary. We have different conditioners from Bumble and bumble, Biosilk and Waterclouds. We also have shampoos and conditioners from the same brand so you can use products that match. We have also taken coloured hair into account, so we have a shampoo and conditioner from Waterclouds that neutralises yellow tones in hair.
Step 4: Curly Girl Method Treatment
When writing the Curly Girl Method, Lorraine Massay obviously took into account the dry texture of women with curly hair. That's why we have a the Curly Girl Method Treatment. The treatments are especially for women with curly hair who suffer from dry/extremely dry hair. A hair serum or hair mask can ensure that your dry curls get that little extra nourishment so that damaged hair can recover.
We have several Curly Girl Method Treatments from brands such as TIGI, Hairfinity and Olaplex.
Step 5: Curly Girl Method Styling
The final step for our Curly Hair Method consists of a number of steps that are optional. You decide which styling you want to use. The Curly Girl method styling products include a CG Method gel, oil, spray, serum, lotion, curl cream and curl mousse.
The CG Method curl cream keeps hair from frizz or frizz. The curl cream ensures that you get your hair under control. Many CG Method curl creams have a protective effect and provide elasticity. Another popular way to style your hair is through a curl mouse. Many women with curls prefer a mousse, because you always have a good option for your hair due to different strengths. In addition, curl mousse also creates full and beautiful curls. Another option is the CG Method gel. A Gel is great for curly hair as it not only prevents frizzy hair, but also provides the hair with a beautiful shine and better hair definition! There are an awful lot of different options for styling curly hair. Whether you want to use different products in combination or just your favourite product, the options are endless!
